Strong building trio for a competitive athlete

We have designed a luxurious domicile for an extraordinary client near Düsseldorf. The successful triathlete wanted accommodation that met the highest standards of performance and designtrio villais the result...

For the 26 mx 100 m property, we designed three buildings as a harmonious ensemble: residential building, garage building and fitness center. The connecting element is a 25 m long outdoor pool for year-round training. The minimalist design with floor-to-ceiling panoramic glazing is clear and simple. The cubes, clad with soft wooden slats, stand on a hard exposed concrete slab. Likewise, solid wall elements alternately flank the buildings along the property and act as privacy screens.

Depending on the setting, the wooden slats provide a view of the interior and from there of the outside. This grid creates a timelessly elegant overall picture. The alternation of transparency and veiling results in effective lighting conditions. The atmosphere changes depending on the time of day and season. Behind these upstream structures are entrances, windows, gates or terraces and balconies.

The furnishings in all buildings reflect the reduced but exquisite taste of the client. Furniture from selected brands are colour-coordinated and create a classy, calm interior. Sophisticated lighting concepts stage everything effectively. Rooms like the open living-dining area are spacious, everything is flooded with light. From every position, the view wanders undisturbed towards the sky and garden. There the bathing and fitness house forms the end of the 25m long outdoor pool. The client uses this resting place to relax, guests are very welcome: we have planned two separate rooms for this purpose.

Electricity from renewable energies, low C02 footprint

Despite all the love of exclusivity and comfort, the client attached great importance to a sustainable, economical energy concept. We have implemented this in a measurable way: The share of renewable energies is 96 percent and the CO2 emissions per m2/a are less than 0.4 tons. For comparison: A gas heater emits 4 tons per m2/a, i.e. ten times as much. The average energy consumption is 32 kWh per m2/a, the KfW efficiency house 70 comes to 60 kWh/a per m2.

energy efficiency

  • Highly insulating building shell (roof, facade, floor slab), average U-value 0.29 W/m2K

  • Share of renewable energies is 96%

  • Self-sufficiency factor is 66%

  • Energy consumption per sqm at 32 kWh/a

  • CO2 emissions per year are less than 0.4t (reference gas heating approx. 4t)

Energy and building technology

  • Heat and power generation by HP (18kW)

  • Distribution of heat via underfloor heating, the building has no radiators, use of solar input in winter to heat the concrete inner walls

  • PV system 20kWp, 60 modules with 320W, area requirement 120sqm, east-west laying 5° inclination

  • Battery storage from BYD, 9.6kW

  • LED lighting technology inside and outside

  • 1 gas fireplace approx. 2m wide

  • KNX and CAT6 cabling in all rooms

  • Building control through MyGekko Home Server

  • Living room ventilation with heat recovery (98%) in all rooms, the swimming pool is insulated and ventilated.

  • Efficiency pumps outdoor swimming pool, ventilation, kitchen exhaust air
